If I join ROTC am I committed to any military service?
No. Joining ROTC itself does not constitute a military commitment.
How many hours a week does ROTC require?
GMC = 5 hours per week, POC = 7.5 hours per week.
Do I have to wear a uniform?
On Tuesdays we wear our uniforms from 0800 to the end of LLAB (1730). For first-year students, this uniform is typically a detachment shirt and khakis until ABUs/blues are issued.
Do I have to workout?
Passing a physical fitness test is required, so yes. Group PT (physical training) is held two times per week and is designed to help cadets prepare for the official FA (fitness assessment). To be successful on the FA individual working out is necessary. See fitness standards.
Do I have to purchase my Air Force ROTC books and uniforms?
No. Air Force ROTC provides all materials required for our classes, so books and uniforms will be issued to you.
Do I have to attend basic training?
Yes. You will attend Field Training for AFROTC cadets, which is approximately 2 weeks long. This training is held at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, Alabama. You will not attend any other type of basic training, such as enlisted basic training.
